Hwang In-Beom scores full-time on Eredivisie debut...Feyenoord win 2-0
South Korea national soccer team “midfield orchestrator” Hwang In-beom (28, Feyenoord) played full-time in his Dutch Eredivisie debut and was the unsung hero of his team's 2-0 victory.
Feyenoord won 2-0 at home against NAC Breda in the sixth round of the 2024-2025 Eredivisie at the Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on Sept. 22 (KST).
The win extends Feyenoord's unbeaten streak to five matches (two wins, three draws) and moves them into fifth place in the standings.
Hwang In-beom, who joined Feyenoord on March 3, made his Feyenoord debut in the first leg of the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League (UCL) League Phase against Leverkusen (GER) on Tuesday (0-4 loss), and made his full league debut against Breda, starting in the center midfield in a 4-3-3 formation.
According to Sofascore, Hwang completed 82% of his passes with two key passes and four shots on goal, giving him a rating of 7.4.
Hwang made his presence felt early in the first half with a flurry of sharp space passes.
In the fourth minute, he played a killer pass to Ibrahim Osman as he surged down the right flank of the penalty area, and in the seventh minute, he was the link in the team's attack with a short pass near the penalty spot that set up Quinter Timberlake for a right-footed shot.
Feyenoord suffered a blow in the 26th minute when striker Santiago Jimenez, last season's top scorer in the regular season, went down after clutching his right thigh during a ball competition.
However, Feyenoord took the lead in the 34th minute when Japan international striker Ayase Ueda, who replaced Jimenez, headed home a cross from the left flank from just inside the penalty area.
Hwang In-Beom nearly made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute with a powerful left-footed shot from the right side of the penalty area that grazed the side of Breda's left post, much to the dismay of the home fans.
Feyenoord, who started the second half on the front foot with a surprise strike from Hwang In-Beom, missed a golden opportunity to add to their lead in the fifth minute of the second half when Ueda's left-footed shot from the left side of the goal area following a pass from Hwang went just wide of the post.
Feyenoord added a second goal in the 29th minute on a penalty kick, with Hwang In-Bum's pass serving as the initiator.
In the 27th minute, Hwang's pass from midfield found Timberlake, whose right-footed shot from near the penalty spot struck the hand of a Breda defender and a penalty kick was awarded.
Timber stepped up to take the penalty and converted the spot kick for Feyenoord's second goal, sealing the 2-0 victory.
